At times we focus so much on where to travel we forget to enjoy home. In my case, I call the mountains of Colorado home and there is always so much to enjoy.

I took a weekend and decided to visit my home as a traveler. It was an amazing experience.

Day One
First, up on Saturday morning was a walk around Lake Dillon. There are breathtaking views of the Gore Range and the still frozen Lake Dillon.

After, the leisurely 90 minutes walk around, I headed up to the Rudy Ranch trails. There is a waterfall almost 5 miles at the top of the trail. It is a challenging hike, especially as the trail is snow packed. The pain is worth it as the view of the frozen waterfall is spectacular. If you speed walk you will get there and back in around 3 hours. However, this trek could be a day event if you want red to simply appreciate the views and walk at a more leisurely pace.

After five hours of exercise I recommend that you book a massage. I recommend the Serenity Spa and get a 90 minute treatment.

Then head back to the hot tub to continue the take in the fabulous views some more. The wildlife is spectacular with regular sightings of elk, moose, fox, pine martin and birds of all varieties.

There are many dinner options in Summit County. I highly recommend the The Lodge at Keystone Ranch which is one of the oldest properties in the community.

Day Two

Many options. Get up and repeat is one perfect option which is what I did.

Also Vail and Breckenridge are only a short 30 minute ride away. Quaint shops and excellent restaurants abundant.

It was totally refreshing to visit my home town through the eyes of a tourist. I hope you put Summit County on your travel list. You will not be disappointed.
